The Ministry for Education has collaborated with the Department of Languages and Humanities in Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Malta and with the University of Nueva Caceres-Bataan, Philippines for an online symposium held on the 17th May 2023. The East Meets West symposium was aimed to facilitate the exchange of experiences among newly qualified teachers from Malta and the Philippines. Participants were engaged in hands-on and reflective activities to define a teacher. Teachers were encouraged to foster a non-judgemental understanding while exploring the similarities and differences between their teaching contexts and culturally diverse situations, focusing also on different periods of a teacher’s day, and synchronically creating a visual representation of their valuable findings.
Towards the end of the symposium, the groups came together to formulate ten tips and insights for an effective teacher, bearing in mind one’s wellbeing, professional growth, passion towards the teaching job and enhancement of the students’ teaching and learning experience.
