The ‘Aqra kemm Tiflaħ’ programme aims to enrich Primary and Kindergarten classrooms with high-quality books that capture children’s interest. Each classroom receives a carefully selected collection of books in both English and Maltese, spanning a variety of genres including fiction and non-fiction. This offers children a broad selection of books to read and take home, encouraging reading for enjoyment. It helps foster a direct connection with books, promotes positive reading habits, increases time spent reading, and supports improved reading outcomes.
Throughout this scholastic year, over 16,800 books in Maltese and English have been distributed across state schools.
Additionally, the National Literacy Agency has developed and made available a range of resources to enrich the reading-for-pleasure experience for educators, students, and parents. These include engaging activities and interactive games in both Maltese and English that can be used before, during, or after reading. All resources are free and accessible online at https://nla.gov.mt/aqra-kemm-tiflah/.
