The International Learners’ Directorate, within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, organized the Language to Go! Summer Courses 2025.
Designed to support newcomer learners in Maltese and English, the courses were open to students from Years 2 to 10, as well as adult participants. The courses were launched in July, with sessions held both online and in person at il-Blata l-Bajda Middle School and Paola Primary School. Participation in the Language to Go! 2025 courses was offered free of charge.
Language to Go! 2025 – For young learners
The online sessions started on 21st July, followed a week later by the launch of the physical classes. Over 800 young learners enrolled in the Language to Go! Summer Course 2025. The programme consists of eight 90-minute sessions, held two to three times per week over a period of three to four consecutive weeks. Currently, two coordinators oversee the organization of both in-person and online classes, while 15 teachers are responsible for delivering the sessions.
Language to Go! 2025 – Adults
The sessions for adults started on Monday, 28th July, with two lessons per week. Approximately 400 adults enrolled in the course, offered in collaboration with the Directorate for Lifelong Learning and Employability (DLE). Participants come from diverse nationalities and age groups. Adult learners can attend these courses while their children participate in the Language to Go! 2025 classes for young learners.
A programme for newcomers
The courses focus on developing conversational, reading, and writing skills, giving students the chance to practise Maltese and English actively. Participants had the opportunity to enrol in Maltese sessions, English sessions, or both. The programme continues to expand each year, with a particular emphasis on supporting newly arrived learners, especially those who are still developing foundational language skills in Maltese and English. These courses give learners a safe and supportive space to practise speaking in Maltese and English, helping them build confidence and essential communication skills as they settle into a new community.
