Joħorġu r-riżultati tal-Fond Malti tal-Ktieb 2022

Il-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb (KNK) bi pjaċir qed iħabbar li l-Bord tal-Aġġudikazzjoni tal-Fond Malti tal-Ktieb 2022 iddeċieda u qabel dwar is-sottomissjonijiet rebbieħa għal din l-edizzjoni tal-Fond. Se jkunu qed jieħdu l-fondi 29 proġett bejn proġetti ta’ pubblikazzjoni u oħrajn ta’ traduzzjoni.

L-għan ewlieni tal-għotjiet differenti fil-fond huwa li jissussidja proġetti għal kotba li għandhom valur kulturali imma jeħtieġu l-għajnuna minħabba nuqqas ta’ vijabbiltà kummerċjali. Il-proġetti rebbieħa ntgħażlu skont damma ta’ kriterji mfassla minn qabel, fosthom il-valur kulturali u edukattiv tal-pubblikazzjoni proposta, u l-ingaġġ mas-suq tal-pubblikazzjoni u l-udjenza mira.

Il-Bord tal-Aġġudikazzjoni tal-Fond Malti tal-Ktieb 2022 kien magħmul minn Simone Inguanez, Dr Mario Aquilina, Dr Mario Thomas Vassallo u Katryna Storace. Dawn raw l-applikazzjonijiet kollha indipendentement, skont kriterji bħas-sħuħija tal-applikazzjoni, l-attwazzjoni tal-proġett u l-mertu kulturali. L-applikazzjonijiet jistgħu jirċievu fondi daqs kemm talbu, jew parzjalment.

L-aġġudikanti nnutaw li bħala regola ġenerali l-kwalità tal-proġetti sottomessi kienet għolja, li deher ukoll mill-fatt li bosta minnhom ġabu l-marka minima eliġibbli għalbiex tingħata l-fond, jiġifieri 60. Tkellmu wkoll dwar dawk l-applikazzjonijiet li ma kinux mirfuda minn siltiet mill-proġett propost u kif dawn kellhom inqas ċans minn ħaddieħor biex jieħdu l-fond, kif ukoll, u dawn l-aktar għal proġetti tat-traduzzjoni, li dawk l-applikazzjonijiet li inkludew pjan iddettaljat dwar is-suq mira u d-distribuzzjoni marru aħjar minn oħrajn.

Sad-data tal-għeluq għas-sottomissjonijiet fit-30 ta’ Ġunju, il-Fond Malti tal-Ktieb 2022 irċieva 74 sottomissjoni eliġibbli mifruxa fil-fergħat differenti. Il-baġit totali kien ta’ €120,000, li nqasmu f’€50,000 għall-Għotjiet għall-Pubblikazzjoni ta’ Kotba Ġodda, €10,000 għall-Għotjiet għal Edizzjonijiet Ġodda ta’ Kotba mhux fl-Istampa, €55,000 għall-Għotjiet għat-Traduzzjoni u €5,000 għall-Għotjiet għat-Traduzzjoni ta’ Silta minn Ktieb bħala Pitch.

Kull għotja tista’ twieżen sa 100% tal-proġett propost u sa massimu ta’ €5,000 f’kull fergħa, tneħħi dawk fl-Għotjiet għat-Traduzzjoni ta’ Silta minn Ktieb bħala Pitch, li jistgħu jingħataw sa €500 kull proposta. Sabiex jiġi assigurat li l-Fond iwieżen kemm jista’ jkun proġetti li jkun ħaqqhom u li l-flus jintużaw kollha, il-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb jirriżerva d-dritt li jmexxi fondi mhux utilizzati minn fergħa għal oħra.

Importanti jiġi nnutat ukoll li jekk wieħed ma rnexxilux jikkwalifika għall-fondi did-darba ma jfissirx li ma jistax japplika mill-ġdid bl-istess proġett jew bi proġett differenti meta terġa’ toħroġ sejħa għall-applikazzjonijiet.

Il-KNK se jkun qed jikkuntattja lill-applikanti li ħadu l-fondi sabiex jiffirmaw il-kuntratt, li jagħtihom ċans 18-il xahar sabiex jitlesta l-proġett.

Il-proġetti rebbieħa skont il-kategorija tal-Fond, bl-isem tal-benefiċjarju u l-ammont mogħti tista’ tarahom mit-tabelli mehmuża mal-imejl ta’ din l-istqarrija jew billi sseggwi din il-ħolqa: https://ktieb.org.mt/malta-book-fund.

Malta Book Fund 2022 results

The results of the Malta Book Fund 2022 are out

The National Book Council is pleased to announce that the Malta Book Fund 2022 adjudication board has agreed on the winning submissions for this year’s Fund. 29 projects will be receiving funding for publication or translation through the Malta Book Fund.

The various strands of the Malta Book Fund are aimed at supporting culturally significant book projects that require funding due to their lack of commercial viability. The winning projects have been chosen according to a set of established criteria, including the cultural and educational value of the project, and its the engagement with the publishing market and target audience.

The Malta Book Fund 2022 Adjudication Board was comprised of Simone Inguanez, Dr Mario Aquilina, Dr Mario Thomas Vassallo and Katryna Storace who independently assessed each submission for completeness, costing, feasibility and cultural merit. Applications are considered to receive either full or partial funding.

The adjudicators noted that in general the quality of the submitted applications was high, which is translated in the fact that many submissions got more than the minimum 60 marks required to be eligible for funding. They also pointed out that applications which were not backed by an excerpt of the proposed project had less chance of being awarded any grant, while others, especially projects submitted for the translation grants, whose application included a thorough explanation of the target market and distribution fared better.

By the application period deadline on 30 June, the 2022 Malta Book Fund received a total of 74 eligible submissions across all strands of the Fund. The budget for the 2022 Malta Book Fund was €120,000, with €50,000 allocated to Publishing Grants for New Books, €10,000 for Publishing Grants for New Editions of Out-of-Print Works, €55,000 for Translation Grants and €5,000 for Book Translation Pitch Grants.

All grants awarded may support up to 100% of the proposed project up to a maximum of €5,000 for all grants except the Book Translation Pitch Grants, which may support up to a maximum of €500 per proposal. To ensure that the Malta Book Fund is able to support as many worthy projects as possible and utilised fully, the National Book Council reserves the right to repurpose grants left unused from one category to the other.

Applicants which fail to receive funds in a particular year are not barred from applying again during the next call for applications with the same project or a different one.

The NBC will be contacting the winning applicants for the signing of a beneficiary’s contract allowing for an 18-month period from the date of signing to publish the book.

The list of the projects funded, alongside the beneficiary and the amount granted, can be viewed in the attached tables and at https://ktieb.org.mt/malta-book-fund.
