The Science Centre PembrokeDLAP has organised another edition of Thematic STEM Debate (Secondary Schools).

Thematic STEM debate is an initiative that provides the setting for students to place their arguments and rebuttals on a particular theme. This year’s initiative for year 10 and year 11 secondary students was held at Baxter, Malta.

The aim of this initiative is to engage students to become active critical thinkers and skilled debaters. Participating students were given several documents including academic papers, reports, and policies on the theme to help them set their arguments. The theme for this year was Medical Technology.

The debate was moderated by Ms Vella Bondin, who kept a dynamic, informative and engaging discussion going. A team of three professionals judged this event using a set of criteria.

Three winners for the Top Debater Award were announced during a short award ceremony at the end of the debate.  These were (in alphabetical order):

Ansari, Aatiqah FarheenSt Ignatius College, Secondary School, Handaq

Deidun, YleniaSt Monica School, Birkirkara

Zheng, QingSt Clare College, Secondary School, Pembroke

The top three debaters were awarded smart watches sponsored by Baxter, Malta. All twelve debaters received a certificate of participation as well as a gift from Baxter, Malta.
