During week starting 22 April 2024, Dr Sue Bodman and Ms Glen Franklin, in liaison with the National Literacy Agency and the Reading Recovery Europe National Leaders, visited the following schools for the purpose of Reading Recovery (RR) accreditation: Birkirkara Primary, Qrendi Primary, Cospicua Primary, Marsa Primary, San Andrea Junior School Żebbiegħ, St Aloysius Primary School Balzan and St Francis Primary School Msida.
An information session was held on 24 April for educators, Heads/Assistant Heads of schools and members of the general public, who wished to ask questions and find out more about the role of a RR Teacher and a RR Teacher Leader, and the implementation of RR in schools in Malta and Gozo. Evidence that shows that Reading Recovery works locally was also discussed.
The full day Teacher Leader Professional Development Day for the 7 RR Teacher Leaders in Malta, led by Dr Bodman, was held on 25 April at the National Curriculum Centre, Ħamrun. The theme discussed was: What RR programme outcomes tell us about the challenges our teachers are experiencing.
During this accreditation visit, each RR Teacher Leader was given individual support by the RR National Leaders to ensure that the standards for implementation of RR are met and its trademark can continue to be used.
