The Primary Science Team within the Directorate for STEM & VET Programmes has recently launched the 10th edition of the Junior Science Club, an innovative after-school program designed to engage young students in the wonders of science. This year, the initiative will take place in thirteen localities across Malta and Gozo, in collaboration with Birżebbuġa, Fgura, Ħ’Attard, Ħal Lija, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Marsaxlokk, Naxxar, St Paul’s Bay, Victoria, Xewkija, Żabbar, Żejtun, and Żurrieq Local Council.

The Junior Science Club aims to provide children aged 3 to 11 with opportunities to participate in hands-on science investigations and practical activities that extend their learning beyond the classroom. Through engaging sessions, students will develop essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and self-appraisal.

There are two distinct categories:

  1. Junior Science Club Early Years: Designed for children aged 3 to 6, this category invites young children and their parents or guardians to explore science together through interactive activities.
  2. Junior Science Club Primary Years: Targeted at students aged 7 to 11, this category focuses on more advanced science investigations that nurture 21st-century skills essential for future learning.

The Junior Science Club will run on a weekly basis from the end of October 2024 until the end of May 2025, with a total of 19 clubs accommodating approximately 270 students. Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children can find more information about specific clubs and application forms through collaborating local councils, by visiting the Junior Science Club Facebook page or by contacting Ms. Isabel Zerafa (Education Officer, Primary Science) on 25983597 or via email at [email protected]. There are limited places available and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
