Voluntary Initiatives at Maria Goretti Tarxien Middle School

The students at STMC Maria Goretti Middle School Tarxien have recently engaged in a meaningful whole-school voluntary experience, embracing the spirit of giving and community service. This initiative perfectly aligns with the school’s ethos which seeks to foster values such as kindness, sense of responsibility, empathy, and active citizenship amongst all its students.

Groups of students visited Casa Paola and St Vincent De Paul, where they spent time with the elderly, both by singing and delivering Christmas cards and gifts. This heartwarming visit brought joy to both the students and the residents alike.

Several classes gathered at Dar Nazaret in Tarxien and made Christmas cards for the residents at Dar Annunzjata. These cards were delivered personally on the day whilst sharing a moment of joy with the elderly.

In addition, some students created Christmas cards at school, which were then hand-delivered to passers-by and shop owners in Tarxien, as well as our own ancillary staff, spreading festive cheer throughout the community.

Another group of students went to the Island Sanctuary and Nature Trust Wildlife Centre at Xrobb l-Ghagin, where they learned about wildlife conservation efforts and contributed by donating dog treats.

The students who visited the RMJ Horse Rescue learned about the incredible work of the rescue team and the dedication involved in caring for the horses. It was an enriching experience, providing them with valuable insights into the importance of compassion and responsibility, while fostering a deep connection with the animals.

“Today was a wonderful example of teamwork and community spirit as our educators and students came together for various voluntary initiatives across different locations. Your dedication and effort made a real difference, and we are so proud of you all. Together, we continue to make an impact. Remember that when you receive something you fill your hands, but when you give something back, you fill your hearts, commented Ms. Abela Cascun, Middle School Tarxien, Head of School. Some students also had the opportunity to share their positive experiences with the entire school during the special assembly, reflecting on how these visits taught them the importance of giving back to the community and the profound impact of small acts of kindness.

Transport to these locations was partially sponsored by UTS Ltd as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts towards the community. Thanks to their generous support in partially sponsoring the transport to these locations, this event was a truly successful one and meaningful day for all.
