The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society led a workshop which is part of the Dan Jien project. The aim of this project is to create and foster awareness of what it means for people to be on the autistic spectrum. In fact, on Tuesday 25th March 2025, two child participation experts gave an hour-long session with the students sitting on our school’s Student Council.
During this workshop, they engaged in a conversation with our students to give a meaning to autism and how we can better understand students who are on the autistic spectrum. They also had prepared a short clip about Beppe, a young lad on the autistic spectrum, which video explains the struggles he goes through in daily life.
Eventually, this short clip will be disseminated with all schools to educate more students. The presenters also prepared a short activity requiring group work. The students were given headphones with sound effects which would distract and dysregulate students with autism. This activity was meaningful and made us more aware of how students on the autistic spectrum perceive their surroundings.
Her Excellency Madame Marie Louise Coleiro Preca was present throughout this activity.
