St Elmo Valletta Primary School SGPC Empowers Creativity and Inclusion Through Digital Literacy

Valletta Primary School happy to share an inspiring project led by Year 5 student Martina Micallef, who brought her story Alice Saves the Day to life through a remarkable fusion of creativity, storytelling, and cutting-edge digital technology.

This project is an example of how young learners can develop digital literacy while fostering inclusion and confidence.

Assisted by an adult, Martina started by organizing her ideas with digital tools and enhancing her writing with AI-powered Copilot assistance. The story follows Alice , a brave and kind-hearted character from Valletta who navigates challenges and supports her friends, teaching valuable lessons about courage, kindness, and teamwork.

The project extended beyond traditional storytelling. Martina created a beautifully designed ebook using StoryJumper, recorded an audiobook narrated by AI via ElevenLabs, and produced a physical printed book endorsed by the school leadership. Additionally, Martina composed a song inspired by Alice’s adventures alongside AI tools like Suno.ai, and designed a 3D model and keychain of Alice, made with a 3D printer, blending technology with creativity.

Complementing the story, educational games such as word searches were created and made accessible online via QR codes to engage and educate young readers interactively.

The entire initiative was supported and guided by Ms Melrose Borg, a dedicated learning support educator at Valletta Primary School, alongside the valuable assistance and approval of Mr Salvinu Agius, Head of School, whose encouragement was crucial to this project’s success.

Through this journey, Martina overcame her shyness, gained confidence, and acquired vital digital skills. Valletta Primary School proudly demonstrates how innovative projects that blend technology and creativity can inspire inclusion and prepare students for the future digital world.
