On Saturday, 22nd November 2025, the National Literacy Agency hosted its annual Writing Stars Festival at Ochre Hall, located within the Ħaġar Qim complex, an event that brings together local and international authors to inspire middle school students through interactive workshops. The festival aims to nurture a love for writing while giving students the unique opportunity to learn directly from professional authors.
This year’s international guests included Kate O’Hearn, Steve Skidmore, and Chris Vick, all of whom shared their experience, creativity, and enthusiasm with the young participants. Joining them were a number of distinguished Maltese authors: Carmel G. Cauchi, Charles Casha, Clare Azzopardi, Natalie Portelli, Rita Saliba, Leanne Ellul, Ruth Frendo, and Ivan Debattista.
Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of workshops, each offering a different perspective on writing. The authors encouraged the participants to explore their creativity, refine their ideas, and believe in their potential as future writers.
The event concluded with a final ceremony during which students received books and a special souvenir to commemorate this memorable day. The Writing Stars Festival was once again a great success, leaving students inspired and motivated to continue developing their writing talents. The National Literacy Agency extends its gratitude to Heritage Malta for hosting the event and to the Heads of Department (Literacy) for their support in its implementation.
