More Than a Game: Passion, Teamwork and Determination Power the Malta School Games

The Malta School Games continued to celebrate school sport and student development with two exciting competitions held in January 2026 — Handball U15 Men and Futsal U13 Open. Across both events, students demonstrated outstanding commitment, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm, reinforcing the positive impact of school sport on young athletes.

Handball U15 Men – 13th January 2026

The Handball U15 Men competition brought together five school teams: SBC Kirkop, STMC St. Lucia, SCC NSS, MRC Lily of the Valley, and Verdala International School. From the first whistle, the atmosphere was filled with energy as students showcased not only their technical ability but also their courage, fair play, and determination.

The high level of preparation was evident throughout the matches, with teams competing intensely while maintaining respect for their opponents. The Malta School Games would like to thank the Malta Handball Association for their continued support, particularly in providing referees and contributing to the development of the students.

A special word of appreciation goes to all students and teachers for their dedication and hard work.

Congratulations to SCC NSS and STMC St. Lucia, who earned their place in the Finals scheduled for May 2026.

Futsal U13 Open – 15th & 16th January 2026

The excitement continued with the Futsal U13 Open, hosted at the Kirkop Sports Complex, which welcomed an encouraging 13 participating schools. Played in a round-robin format over two days, the competition highlighted students’ passion for futsal, strong teamwork, and an impressive fighting spirit.

Matches across both days were closely contested, reflecting the determination and commitment shown by all teams involved. The Malta School Games applaud both students and teachers for their excellent preparation and enthusiastic participation.

Well done to all schools who took part, including SMC Cospicua, STMC Tarxien, STC Ta’ Paris, SCC Pembroke, SIC Ħandaq, SBC Kirkop, Savio College, St Edward’s College, and Verdala International School.

Congratulations to SCC NSS, San Anton School, MCS, and Stella Maris, who successfully qualified for the Finals in May 2026.

The Malta School Games continue to provide a platform where students can grow through sport, develop lifelong values, and build memories that extend beyond the playing field. We look forward to more exciting competitions as we move closer to the Finals in May 2026.
