The Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS), the Government entity responsible for the building and refurbishment of State schools in Malta and Gozo, embarked on an ambitious programme of works with a capital investment of €150 million.
Projects vary from the construction of brand new schools, to the major refurbishment of old ones and the construction of extensions to existing schools.
FTS is currently investing in the construction of new primary schools at Victoria, Gozo, Rabat and Msida. At St. Thomas More College Santa Luċija Senior School, FTS is constructing a sports complex and multipurpose hall. FTS has just completed major refurbishment and the extension of the secondary school in Żejtun, which forms part of the same college, making it a state-of-the-art modern education facility suitable for today’s needs. FTS will be further modernising the sports facilities and multipurpose hall at this school, as well as constructing a new gymnasium.
FTS has an ambitious plan to refurbish several primary schools at Ħal Qormi, Ħal Għaxaq, Mellieħa, Nadur, Ta’ Kerċem, Għarb and Iż-Żebbuġ in Gozo.
In line with Government policy to combat obesity from a young age through sports, FTS is giving priority to sports infrastructure. FTS has recently completed the re-construction of a football ground at Maria Regina College Mosta (Żokrija) Secondary School and is currently re-constructing one of the grounds at St. Margaret College Bormla Middle School. At Naxxar, FTS will be constructing a new football ground, complete with a spectators’ stand and changing facilities, as well as an underground car park, within the precincts of Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School. At Ta’ Sannat in Gozo, FTS will be constructing a sensory-hydro-therapy indoor pool for children and young adults with mobility challenges. Various projects are currently undertaken to improve the quality of sports infrastructure within different schools.
