Nhar il-Ħamis 20 ta’ Ġunju 2024, l-Aġenzija Nazzjonali tal-Litteriżmu flimkien mal-Malta Trust Foundation u l-Fondazzjoni Maltija għall-Ġid tas-Soċjetà, iċċelebraw l-għeluq is-seba’ edizzjoni tal-Qaritona Nazzjonali, bis-sehem ta’ Malta Public Transport. Din iċ-ċelebrazzjoni ġiet organizzata fl-iskola primarja A tal-Mosta, fi ħdan il-Kulleġġ Marija Reġina, u matulha ġew ippremjati l-iskejjel li ħadu sehem fil-Qaritona. L-attività inkludiet ukoll rappreżentazzjoni mill-istudenti tat-tielet sena tal-istess skola, bl-isem ‘Il-Ktieb Teżor,’ dwar il-gost tal-qari. L-Eċċellenza Tagħha l-President Emeritu Marie Louise Coleiro Preca , f’isem il-Malta Trust Foundation, mexxiet iċ-ċelebrazzjoni. L-Onor. Ministru Clifton Grima Ministru għall-Edukazzjoni, l-Isport, iż-Żgħażagħ, ir-Riċerka u l-Innovazzjoni kien il-mistieden speċjali.
Il-messaġġ ewlieni ta’ din l-edizzjoni tal-Qaritona kien ‘Aqra Kuljum, Kull fejn Tkun!’ L-iskejjel primarji u medji li ħadu sehem organizzaw attività ta’ qari jisimha ‘Erħi Kollox u Aqra!’ Matul il-Qaritona tqassam il-ktieb Ħerba f’Art il-Ħrejjef, ta’ Benjamin Portelli, tradott għall-Malti minn Martina Oliva. Din is-sena ħadu sehem madwar 7,300 student minn 27 skola mis-setturi tal-istat, tal-knisja u l-privat.
Bil-flus li nġabru mill-istudenti, flimkien ma’ donazzjonijiet mill-pubbliku u minn kumpaniji privati, il-Malta Trust Foundation se tkun qed tinvesti f’riżorsi edukattivi (Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices) li jgħinu lil tfal fuq l-ispettru tal-awtiżmu li jsibu diffikultà jesprimu ruħhom verbalment, kif ukoll lil tfal neqsin mid-dawl.
Closure Celebration of the Seventh National Readathon
On Thursday 20th June 2024, the National Literacy Agency, The Malta Trust Foundation, and The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society celebrated the closure of the seventh National Readathon, organised with the support of Malta Public Transport. During this celebration, held at Mosta Primary School A, Maria Regina College, representatives from participating schools and individual participants were awarded special prizes. Guests were treated to a short play, by Year 3 pupils, titled ‘Il-Ktieb Teżor’, on the theme of the pleasure of reading.
This celebration was presided over by Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, Chairperson of The Malta Trust Foundation. The Hon. Clifton Grima, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation was the guest of honour.
The chosen slogan for this year’s edition of the Readathon was ‘Read – Any Time, Any Place!’ Schools were encouraged to organise a ‘Drop Everything and Read!’ activity. During this year’s edition, copies of the book ‘The Land of Fairy Fails’ by Benjamin Portelli were distributed in schools across Malta and Gozo. About 7,300 pupils from 27 state, church, and independent schools participated in this year’s edition.
The funds generated through the Readathon, together with other donations from the public and private entities, will enable The Malta Trust Foundation to invest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices that help non-verbal children on the autism spectrum and children with visual impairments improve their communication skills.
