The voluntary Association Tomasina Sanctuary, Association for Stray Cats paid a visit to Paola Summer Catch-Up Classes 2024 on Tuesday 13th August 2024. In a heart-warming initiative to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, the school organised an activity in aid of Tomasina Cat Sanctuary. Two volunteers, Ms Simone and Ms Mary accompanied by two kittens visited Paola Primary Summer Catch-Up Classes to engage with students. They shared insights about the significance of providing proper care to cats, neutering, and the importance of community support while Ms Simone emphasized the importance of volunteering and visiting the cat shelter at Luqa. Volunteering offers a wide range of benefits, both for the community and for one’s personal growth.
During the previous week at Paola Primary, we collected food in aid of Tomasina Sanctuary, Association for Stray Cats and this helps in supporting the development of students’ emotional intelligence. The voluntary association has a clear set of objectives at improving the lives of abandoned and neglected cats. During their visit at Paola Summer Catch-Up Classes, Ms Simone and Ms Mary shared valuable insights and while presenting they covered various aspects, such as:
Responsible Pet Ownership: The students learned about the responsibilities that will come along when owning a pet, including providing proper nutrition, regular exercise, medical attention and affection.
Rescue and Rehabilitation: The association is committed in rescuing abandoned and neglected cats, providing them with medical attention, shelter, and rehabilitation.
Adoption and Rehoming: Through adoption events and carefully vetted adoption processes, the association strives to find loving and permanent homes for rescued or new-born cats.
Microchipping: The association emphasizes the importance of microchipping cats to facilitate their identification and reunification with their owners in case they get lost.
Community Support: The association relies on donations, volunteers, and community support to carry out their initiatives effectively.
The visit left an impact on the students as they gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by cats at the shelters and the steps required to improve their lives. Learning about the struggles of abandoned cats fostered empathy among students and encouraged them to treat animals and fellow beings with kindness. The students’ enthusiasm was evident through the collection of cat food as well as during the presentation.
By educating students about responsible pet ownership and the challenges faced by abandoned pets, we are promoting positive change that can be easily achieved through education and collaboration between associations and educational institutions.
Special thanks goes to Ms. Simone, Ms. Mary, parents, students and teachers who participated for a worthy cause. Food collection was donated to the Tomasina Sanctuary, Association for Stray Cats.
