The Primary Science Team within the Directorate for STEM and VET Programmes coordinated the second edition of the Primary Science Fair for Year 5 students, providing young learners with engaging opportunities to explore science through inquiry, collaboration and hands-on learning.
Held on Monday 4th May 2026 at Għarb Primary School, Gozo, and from Tuesday 5th to Friday 8th May 2026 at the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS), Malta, the fair brought together 933 Year 5 students from state and non-state schools.
Students participated in 28 workshops and explored 106 fair stands designed around the Year 5 Primary Science Learning Outcomes, key Sustainable Development Goals and the theme Globally Curious. The fair also promoted national STEM initiatives, including the Primary STEM Challenge and tiny Teen Science Café initiatives.
Workshops and stands were led by members of the Primary Science Team, STEM professionals and students, offering participants meaningful opportunities to engage in scientific inquiry, discussion and problem-solving.
The Primary Science Team would also like to acknowledge and thank the collaborators and contributors who supported this year’s fair, including the University of Malta, Science in the City, Malta Chamber of Scientists, People Management Division within the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing, Nursing and Midwifery Directorate – Malta, Allied Health Services Malta, European Institute for Emerging Technologies, MCAST, Agribusiness, Home Economics Seminar Centre, Directorate for Digital Literacy & Transversal Skills and Environmental Innovation & Greening Gozo.
The Primary Science Fair continues to provide an important platform for promoting science communication, creativity and curiosity among young learners while strengthening STEM education across schools.
