The Summer Catch-Up Programme 2025 kicked off during the third week of July, continuing its mission to provide students across Malta and Gozo with the academic support they need to feel confident and prepared for the year ahead. Now in its fifth consecutive year, the nationwide initiative has grown into a cornerstone of summer education, ensuring no student is left behind.
Running from 14th July to 4th September, the programme spans eight weeks, operating on a four-day schedule from Monday to Thursday. Primary centres are open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while secondary centres run from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This year’s programme is open to students from Year 1 to Year 10, offering both in-person and virtual classes to ensure maximum flexibility and accessibility.
Centres Across Malta and Gozo
- Primary Centres: Marsascala, Paola, Kirkop, Santa Venera, San Ġwann, Mosta and Rabat (Gozo).
- Secondary Centres: St. Lucia, Mrieħel, and Mosta.
- Virtual Centres: Available for both primary and secondary students.
Subjects Offered
The Catch-Up Programme focuses on core subjects essential for students’ academic success, including Mathematics, Maltese, English, Science, Physics, ICT, Physical Education and Art.
All lessons are delivered in small groups by qualified, warrant-holding teachers, ensuring personalised attention and professional guidance.
Free and Open to All
One of the most notable features of the programme is that it is completely free of charge, welcoming students from public, church, and private schools alike.
This year, the initiative is reaching new milestones:
- 12 centres in operation
- Over 2,250 students enrolled
- Over 1,600 students attending on a regular basis
- 120 dedicated teachers
- 11 centre coordinators
- 1 national coordinator
Now that we are halfway through the programme, organisers are already seeing the positive impact: students are engaging more confidently with their subjects, and many are making significant progress thanks to consistent attendance.
A Programme That Makes a Difference
More than just academic revision, the Summer Catch-Up Programme is about building confidence, creating opportunities, and supporting every learner. Each year, the initiative continues to evolve, bringing together educators, students, and communities in a shared effort to strengthen education and foster success.
“This programme is not just about catching up—it’s about ensuring that no student feels left behind. Together, we’re building confidence and creating opportunities, one class and one centre at a time,” the organisers emphasised.
With its blend of academic support, inclusivity, and community spirit, the Summer Catch-Up Programme 2025, offered by MEYR under the direction of DG Mr Jude Zammit, with the coordination of Ms. Jolene Cordina and National Coordinator Ms. Rodienne Bartolo Delmar, stands as a shining example of how education can empower students and pave the way for long-term success.
