The vision of the Directorate for Lifelong Learning and Employability (DLE), within the Ministry for Education and Sport (MES) is that all people deserve personalised and supportive learning opportunities even when they are beyond compulsory school age. Within the realm of the National Strategy for Lifelong Learning 2023-2030 and the National Education Strategy 2024-2030, DLE aims to deliver and incentivise educational opportunities for persons aged 15 and over.
DLE envisions a society where every individual engages in lifelong learning, continuously developing their skills and knowledge, to achieve their full potential. A dynamic learning ecosystem must be responsive to individual needs and societal demands, ensuring a skilled, adaptable, and engaged workforce and citizenry for Malta. Hence, DLE’s core belief is that learning is a lifelong journey, and it is necessary for individuals and communities to acquire skills relevant to their needs, lives, work and wellbeing. In fact, DLE’s ethos is rooted in the belief that learning is a continuous, life-wide process that empowers individuals and strengthens the community. It champions inclusivity, accessibility, and the recognition of diverse learning pathways.
This is reflected through collaboration with various entities and local councils as well as the provision of courses in different modes of learning: modular, face-to-face, online (synchronous) and self-paced (asynchronous), including flexible modes of learning for shift workers. Moreover, learners are supported through guidance service and continuous assessment.
