The Physical Education & Sports section with the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes, Ministry for Education and Employment, is for the first time ever, participating in the Paris meeting of the World Schools’ Cross-Country Championships being organised by the International School Sport Federation (ISF). A six-athlete team from Malta is currently participating in this event. This is part of a programme for gifted and talented students in Physical Education & Sport being coordinated by the Ministry for Education and Employment.
Following a preliminary selection phase held between October and December covering different routes in Buskett, Selmun and Mtahleb, the athletes who made to the final squad are Luca Flask (The Archbishop’s Seminary), Reece Galea (National Sport School), Jake Gauci (MCAST), Jacob Greengrass (St. Theresa College Mriehel Secondary School), Jean Claude Randon (MCAST) and Malcolm James Vassallo (National Sport School).
Ms. Angie Mangion has been appointed as team coach while Head of Delegation is Kevin Azzopardi, Education Officer for Physical Education.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday 2nd April, followed by the main races on Wednesday afternoon. Cultural activities and friendship races are programmed for the following two days before the team’s return on Saturday.
