Ftit snin ilu, l-iskola primarja tal-Gżira fi ħdan il-Kulleġġ Santa Klara qabdet vjaġġ importanti, dik illi tkun skola aktar inklussiva. Din il-ħidma tinkludi l-mira li ssir dyslexia-friendly school. Il-filosofija wara din l-inizjattiva hija li dak li hu tajjeb għal studenti bid-dyslexia ikun ta’ benefiċċju għall-istudenti kollha. B’dan il-mod, id-diffikultajiet li jiltaqgħu magħhom studenti bid-dyslexia ikunu qed jiġu indirizzati iżda fl-istess ħin inkunu qed nagħtu aktar għodod lill-istudenti kollha biex itejbu l-ħiliet tagħhom fil-qari, kitba, spellija u studju fost oħrajn. Din l-inizjattiva tinkludi taħriġ u sostenn kontinwu għall-edukaturi kollha tal-iskola biex jiżdied l-għarfien tad-diffikultajiet u l-istrateġiji li jistgħu jintużaw. Li jiżdied l-għarfien fil-komunita’ tal-iskola kemm tal-isfidi kif ukoll il-ħiliet huwa wkoll importanti. Barra minn hekk l-iskola investiet f’għadd ta’ riżorsi biex it-tagħlim, speċjalment tal-litteriżmu, ikun aktar multisensorjali. Is-sostenn min-naħa tal-Kulleġġ, l-SpLD Service fi ħdan id-DQSE kif ukoll l-Aġenzija Nazzjonali tal-Litteriżmu huwa imprezzabli.
Few years ago, Gzira Primary embarked on a journey, that of becoming more inclusive school. The basic objective is for us to become a dyslexia-friendly school. The philosophy behind this initiative is that what is adequate for children with dyslexia is also valid for the rest of the pupils. In doing so, we are addressing the difficulties encountered bt pupils with dyslexia but at the same time we are also supplying the other students with toold and strategies that help them improve their reading, writing, spelling and studies in general. This initiative includes training and continuous support to all educators at school so that we increase our knowledge about differenti strategies that we can implement. Sharing this knowledge within the school community; of both strengths and weaknesses is also important. Apart from this the school has invested in resources that enhance and facilitate literacy, in a way that it is presented in a more multi-sensory approach. This is possible thanks to the support from the college, SpLd services within the DQSE and also the Maltese Literacy Agency.
