Luca Callus, Matthias Fenech and Denise Grisogoni from St. Catherine’s High School Pembroke are the top winners of the eighth edition of the Malta Senior Science Olympiad organised by the Science Centre DLAP (Pembroke). Kelly Busuttil, Hannah Maria Cutajar and Alessia Mizzi from St Monica School Birkirkara are second runners up while the team from Savio College comprising Jacob Fenech, Emir Mansour and Kyle Christian Schembri placed third.

Each winner received a smartwatch sponsored by the European Union Representation in Malta while the top winners received the MJS0 trophy sponsored by HSBC Malta Foundation. A total of twenty eight secondary schools participated in this Olympiad edition. The initiative forms part of the Directorate’s programme of events targeting gifted students in STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics).

Mr. Glenn Bugeja (HSBC Manager Corporate Sustainability) acclaimed the collaboration with the Science Centre (Pembroke) to provide opportunities for gifted students cultivating the next generation of STEM innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs.

Ms. Desiree Scicluna Bugeja (DLAP Assistant Director) emphasised the Directorate’s role to continue nurturing culturally–responsible STEM talent in gifted students.
