In November 2024, Ljubljana, Slovenia, became a hub of global environmental collaboration as 120 participants from 26 countries gathered for the GLOBE Annual Regional Meeting for Europe and Eurasia. The event brought together educators, scientists, and students to share ideas, explore solutions to environmental challenges, and celebrate the power of hands-on learning.
Ljubljana’s vibrant atmosphere set the stage for meaningful exchanges. Attendees shared how their countries tackle environmental issues, offering fresh perspectives and creative solutions. Workshops throughout the week equipped participants with new skills and tools, empowering them to bring global science education to their local communities.
A standout feature of the meeting was the GLOBE Market, a buzzing showcase of environmental projects from schools worldwide. From innovative citizen science initiatives to creative approaches in sustainability education, the Market highlighted the incredible potential of young minds and dedicated educators working together.
The week concluded with a visit to Rodica Primary School in Domžale, where participants witnessed GLOBE’s mission in action. Students demonstrated outdoor activities, collaborating with older peers to share their discoveries. Watching these budding scientists tackle real-world problems left many inspired and hopeful for the future.
The Maltese delegation at the event was made of Prof. Paul Pace, Country Coordinator for Malta, Ms. Ramona Mercieca, Deputy Coordinator for Malta, Ms. Karen Attard, a GLOBE teacher from Gozo College Sannat Primary School, and Ms. Anne Marie Camilleri, Assistant Head and GLOBE teacher at St. Nicholas College Guze Ebejer Dingli Primary School.
Leaving Ljubljana, participants carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and a reminder of the extraordinary power of global collaboration. Events like this not only strengthen international connections but also inspire a new generation of environmental leaders ready to make a difference.
