Contraceptive and Self-Examination Kits Distributed to PSCD Teachers

Contraceptive and Self-Examination Kits Distributed to PSCD Teachers

On 1st December 2025, state secondary schools across Malta and Gozo received additional self‑examination and contraceptive kits for use in PSCD lessons. The launch was led by Stephen Camilleri, Education Officer for PSCD, with the support of Dr Alice Micallef, Director of the Directorate for Early Years, Languages and Humanities at the Department for Curriculum.

These kits — covering breast and testicular self‑examination alongside contraceptive supplies — supplement the resources that teachers already have, ensuring every class has access to practical tools to support health education. Students aged 13–16 can now learn not only the theory of self‑care and sexual health but also gain hands-on guidance on how to perform self‑checks safely and responsibly.

Early detection of breast and testicular conditions can significantly improve outcomes, and the kits are intended to normalise awareness and proactive health monitoring from a young age. In addition, the contraceptive resources help students understand the importance of safe practices, supporting the broader goal of sexual health education.

During the launch, educational authorities and school representatives highlighted that providing these extra kits strengthens the link between knowledge and practice, enabling teachers to deliver lessons that are both informative and practical.

This initiative is part of a wider effort to combine education with health promotion, empowering young people to take informed decisions about their wellbeing. By giving PSCD teachers additional resources, schools are better equipped to provide comprehensive, engaging lessons that promote awareness, prevention, and responsible self-care among students.
