Meta l-mużika tagħti karattru lill-ktieb — ‘Ħsejjes Letterarji’ waqt Kampus Kotba 2023

Il-mużika taf toħloq l-ambjent tal-ktieb, li fil-proċess tagħti karattru lill-istess ktieb. Waqt il-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus se jkun hemm sezzjoni li fiha l-pubbliku se jsib jilqgħu diversi kotba riċenti, wieħed fejn l-ieħor, u l-opportunità biex permezz ta’ QR Code jisma’ siltiet mużikali marbuta ma’ dak il-ktieb partikolari.

‘Ħsejjes Letterarji’ tressaq ħdejn xulxin il-letteratura u l-mużika, it-tnejn meqjusa bħala forom ta’ arti indipendenti. Minkejja l-indipendenza minn xulxin, it-tnejn għandhom karatteristiċi simili – it-tnejn iwasslu sensiela ta’ ħsus u ħsibijiet, it-tnejn jirriflettu l-emozzjonijiet, u t-tnejn jiddependu mir-ritmu. Minbarra dawn il-karatteristiċi simili, ħafna drabi jixorbu minn xulxin, jirkbu fuq xulxin, u kultant diffiċli tgħid fejn tibda waħda u tispiċċa l-oħra. Kultant, dan it-twaħħid ikun sottili, drabi oħra fil-wiċċ.

Għalhekk, il-pubbliku se jkun jista’ jesperjenza din ir-rabta bejn it-tnejn, igawdi l-letteratura u l-mużika, u jispekula għaliex silta mużikali partikolari hija marbuta ma’ rumanz partikolari. Ngħidu aħna, x’inhi r-rabta bejn “Non andare via” ta’ Patty Pravo mar-rumanz Frammenti ta’ Tyrone Grima, “Love Potion number 9” ta’ The Searchers ma’ Vespri ta’ Trevor Żahra, jew “Morire” ta’ Giovanni Lindo Ferretti ma’ Kapitali ta’ Wayne Flask. Forsi wkoll, liema mużika hija l-aktar ideali bħala sfond għal waqt il-qari? Kemm huwa ideali Mahler ma’ ngħidu aħna Il-Wiċċ l-Ieħor ta’ Ġorġ Peresso? Jekk minflok se taqra Varjetà ta’ Toni Sant, jibqa’ jagħmel sens?

F’dis-sezzjoni l-pubbliku se jkun jista’ josserva kif ċerti rumanzi, kotba ta’ poeżija u ta’ letteratura mhux fittizja minn Malta jinkorporaw il-mużika fit-test, tant li hemm drabi fejn jistgħu jiġu aċċessati playlists sħaħ minn ktieb wieħed.

Ir-rabta bejn il-mużika u l-letteratura se tiġi diskussa wkoll permezz tad-diskussjoni “Frammenti Mużikali” li se tittella’ nhar il-Ħamis, 23 ta’ Marzu f’nofsinhar. Din se titmexxa mid-DJ ta’ Campus FM, Colin Fitz, il-mużiċisti Noah Fabri, u l-awtur tar-rumanz Tyrone Grima. Aktar tard dakinhar, l-Għaqda tal-Malti se ttella’ l-avveniment “Poeżija Slam”, li fiha l-pubbliku se jkun mistieden mhux biss biex jattendi imma anki biex jipparteċipa billi jgħaqqad il-poeżija tiegħu mal-arti performattiva, u għalhekk għal darb’oħra tiċċajpar il-linja bejn il-letteratura u l-mużika, u r-ritmu se jingħata l-akbar importanza. L-għada l-Ġimgħa, fl-4pm, permezz tal-Palk Ħieles organizzat bejn il-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb u Inizjamed, il-pubbliku se jerġa’ jkun mistieden biex mhux biss ikun spettatur imma biex jippreżenta xogħlijiet tiegħu, u għal darb’oħra jistgħu jlaqqgħu l-letteratura mal-mużika.

Il-programm jista’ jiġi aċċessat minn hawnhekk.

Id-dħul għal Kampus Kotba – Il-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus huwa bxejn, u l-ħinijiet tal-ftuħ huma l-Erbgħa u l-Ħamis mid-9am sal-4pm, u l-Ġimgħa mid-9am sas-7pm. Segwi l-paġna FB tal-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus u l-paġna tal-avvenimenti Kampus Kotba għal aktar dettalji.

Discovering the Intersection of Music and Literature at Kampus Kotba 2023: The ‘Ħsejjes Letterarji’ Experience

The power of music to enhance a book is undeniable. It has the ability to add an extra dimension and give it deeper character. During the 2023 Campus Book Festival, visitors can experience this phenomenon first-hand through the display of a number of recently published books accompanied by a QR Code, allowing them to listen to musical excerpts related to the books.

‘Ħsejjes Letterarji’ (Literary Sounds) is an event that brings together two independent art forms: literature and music. Despite their differences, they share common characteristics such as their dependence on rhythm, their ability to transmit emotions, and their use of sounds and thoughts. Furthermore, these two art forms are known to influence each other, blurring the boundaries between them.

At the Festival, visitors can speculate on the choice of music connected to the novel and contemplate the connections between music and literature. For instance, why did the author choose Patty Pravo’s Non andare via for Tyrone Grima’s novel Frammenti? Or why did Trevor Zahra’s Vespri feature The Searchers’ Love Potion Number 9? Or Giovanni Lindo Ferretti’s Morire in Wayne Flask’s novel Kapitali? Visitors are also welcome to contest the chosen music and propose something they consider more fitting. For example, would Mahler fit better into Ġorġ Peresso’s novel Il-Wiċċ l-Ieħor, or in Toni Sant’s Varjetà?

Through this display, the general public will be able to observe how certain Maltese novels, poetry collections, and non-fiction literature incorporate music to the extent that entire playlists can be accessed through a single book.

The connection between music and literature will be further explored during the interview Frammenti Mużikali, moderated by Colin Fitz, the DJ of Campus FM, musician Noah Fabri, and the author of the novel Tyrone Grima. The public is also invited to attend and participate in Poetry Slam, organised by l-Għaqda tal-Malti, which blends poetry with performing arts, blurring the lines between literature and music, and highlighting the role of rhythm in words. Finally, on Friday 24 March at 4pm, literature and music will meet again through the event organised by the National Book Council and Inizjamed: Palk Ħieles.

The festival program can be accessed here, offering visitors a full schedule of events to attend.
