Highlights from the Malta School Games 2024/2025

The Malta School Games 2024/2025 is bringing students together for a series of exciting events celebrating sportsmanship, teamwork, and athletic skill. Here’s a look at the standout moments from the games held these past 2 months:

Pool: A Dive into a New Sport

On October 28th and 29th, students from San Gorg Preca College Hamrun Secondary School and SBC Kirkop Middle School were introduced to the world of Pool. Mr. Vincent Degiorgio, General Secretary of the Malta Pool Association, provided a captivating presentation on the game’s history and local achievements. A detailed video explained the rules, and students had the chance to put their learning into action. This combination of education and fun ensured the event left a lasting impression on the participants.

Handball: High Energy and Intensity

The Handball competition on November 8th saw students from five schools — the National Sports School, SCC Pembroke Secondary School, STMC St. Lucia Secondary School, SIC Handaq Secondary School, and MRC Lily of the Valley — coming together for a day of thrilling matches. Every game was marked by fast-paced action and unwavering enthusiasm. The students demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and making the event unforgettable for players and spectators alike.

Futsal: A Showcase of Teamwork

On November 27th, futsal enthusiasts gathered for a riveting event featuring schools like Savio College, Stella Maris College, Saint Elias College, and several others. Divided into two groups, the matches highlighted the students’ competitive spirit and teamwork. Savio College and St Ignatius Secondary School emerged victorious in their respective groups, leaving a legacy of inspiration for the budding athletes.

Volleyball: Girls Shine at Cottonera Sports Complex

The girls’ volleyball event on December 4th brought together teams from STMC Zejtun Secondary School, St Claire’s College Pembroke Secondary, St Monica School, Verdala International School, and more. Held at the Cottonera Sports Complex, the games were intense and full of skillful play. After closely fought matches, St Claire’s College Pembroke Secondary and St Martin’s College secured their spots for the next stage, showcasing exceptional teamwork and resilience.

Cross Country: A Test of Endurance

The Cross Country Athletics event took place over two stages at the Marsa Sports Complex — the initial race on November 20th and the finals on December 9th. Students competed across challenging courses, demonstrating determination and athleticism. Standout performances led to exciting finals, where the athletes gave their all.
